The outer shell is 100% cotton Indigo Shibori from a deconstructed Yukata that was made in the Late Shōwa Era (1945–1989).
The lining is 100% silk.
Kimonos are made of the most incredible fabrics in the world, yet they are piling up in thrift stores in Japan. We find damaged and discarded kimonos and deconstruct them back to their material base to be used in our pieces. Each kimono is unique, that is why our jackets are all one of one.
The fabrics used for this piece are historic in nature, and may have unique idiosyncrasies. We recommend spot cleaning, and air drying. Color may transfer. Isaboko is not liable for damage.
For centuries kimonos were washed only seasonally by specialists using a meticulous process. The garment was completely unstitched, sewn into a long roll, then hand-washed, pressed, and reassembled. This method preserved the textiles while allowing for subtle adjustments to extend the kimono's life.
